Eagles Activate QB Michael Vick, Cut WR Hank Baskett

The Eagles on Tuesday afternoon removed quarterback Michael Vick from the Exempt List and added him to their 53-man roster and released wide receiver Hank Baskett.

Vick is eligible to practice when the team resumes its work at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday. He will still be unable to play in the Week 2 contest with the Saints. He is not eligible to play in a game until Week 3, when the Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs at Lincoln Financial Field.  Well, Vick can take advantage of this time to get more reps.

With only Kevin Kolb available for that game since Donovan Mcnabb has a  cracked rib in the opening day win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and is in doubt for the next game away to the New Orleans Saints, free agent quarterback Jeff Garcia was signed by the Eagles as a back-up on a one-year deal on Monday.

Although Eagles are lack of QB, they have many WR candidates.

Baskett was one of seven receivers the Eagles carried on

Quick summer project i did for fun to get through the off-season. I played 10 minute quarters on all-madden for an entire season and caught the highlights through it all. Hope you enjoy! I played it as a power running team, thriving off play action. Made a custom playbook to try and make what i feel Charlie Weis would use with Charles and Jones. Used Romeo Crennel’s Cleveland playbook on defense. Also tried to make all of the stats/look of the team as realistic as possible. Included Everything from Wallace Gilberry’s acceleration to Thomas Jones’s freakish pythons. I rotated the ILBers and pass-rushers very often as well, with Williams/Mays/Jackson in on 34 sets and Johnson/Belcher/Sheffield/Gilberry in on nickel/dime/quarter sets. season stats: Passing: Matt Cassel- 3614yds, 34td, 16int, 66% completion Brodie Croyle- 140yds, 2td, 2int, 36% completion Rushing: Thomas Jones- 1288yds, 5td, 308att, 4.1avg, 15fumb Jamaal Charles-1508yds, 9td, 232att, 6.5avg, 2fumb Matt Cassel- 154yds, 4td, 35att, 4.3avg, 2fumb Dexter Mccluster- 80yds, 0td, 22att, 3.6avg, 1fumb Tim Castille 11yds, 5att, 2.1avg, 0fumb Mike Cox- 6yds, 1td, 3att, 2avg, 0fumb Receiving: Dwayne Bowe- 1221yds, 14td, 72 rec, 5drops Dexter Mccluster- 827yds, 6td, 52rec, 0drops Chris Chambers- 624yds, 6td, 44rec, 9drops Jamaal Charles- 430yds, 2td, 26rec, 1drop Leonard Pope- 183yds, 2td, 11rec, 4drops Jerheme Urban- 89yds, 2td, 7rec, 0drops Tony Moeaki- 109yds, 2td, 7rec, 0drops Thomas Jones- 110yds, 2td, 6rec, 0drops

NFL Power Rankings Week 13 2009 Released

NFL Power Rankings Week 13: Last week I published my Week 12 NFL Power Rankings. We have examined the every team in the league and now our week 13 NFL power rankings have been published. Let’s get going with the NFL Power Rankings for Week 13. New Orleans Saints remain on top for week 13 NFL power rankings. Here are some my NFL Power Rankings for Week 13.

Here are some NFL Power Rankings for Week 13 (Last week’s ranking is in brackets):

1 (2) New Orleans Saints (10-0) After seeing the Saints dismantle the Pats, it’s hard not to be excited about the Saints. Not as excited as Jon Gruden, but nobody gets as excited as Jon Gruden.

2 (1) Indianapolis Colts (11-0) Can the team go 16-0? Somewhere Mercury Morris is crapping his pants.

3 (3) Minnesota Vikings (10-1)
Brett Favre threw for a season-high 392 yards against the Bears. How long can he keep this up? Read more..

Quarter’s Worth of Opinions on the NFL

After the first quarter of the National Football League season has been completed, fans can step back and review the early results. I have noticed some developing trends. The following are my observations, broken down by division.

American Football Conference, Eastern Division: Before the quarterback Mark Sanchez finally played like a rookie, Jets’ fans were dreaming of a “Subway Super Bowl” against their cross-town nemeses. Regardless of that loss, the Jets still hold a slight advantage over New England, thanks to their win in the second week. As of it appears now, both team are headed to the playoffs.

American Football Conference, Northern Division:No clear front-runner has emerged yet. Baltimore and Cincinnati are tied at 3-1, followed by 2-2 Pittsburgh. One has to wonder if the Bengals can sustain early-season success in view of recent years of failure. Also, are the Steelers simply feeling lingering effects of Super Bowl hangover and will recover in

The Playoffs and Sport Power Imbalances

This year in the NFL, where even the Wild Card teams sported a .688 winning percentage, the Kansas City Chiefs were left out of the post-season tournament after going 10-6 (.625).  Major League Baseball saw the San Diego Padres win their division and earn a 2005 playoff berth with a .506 winning mark, but they were an anomaly. This season all other MLB playoff teams won 90 or more of the 162 games they played.  Over the past five years 98% of the baseball teams that have been playoff bound have won 90 (.556) or more games and none have had losing records.  The NBA is different.

In the 2003-04 NBA Playoffs four of the eight Eastern Conference teams that had the honor of making the second season earned records of .500 or below.  In the Atlantic Division, the 8th seed Boston Celtics, one of the most winning franchises in professional sports history, touted a 36-46 (.439) record as they headed into the playoffs. At 39-43 (.476) the New York Knicks weren’t

2009 New England Patriots Fantasy Football Preview

2008 witnessed the worst possible nightmare for both fantasy owners and New England Patriots fans alike as QB Tom Brady went down with a torn ACL during the second series of the Patriots opener last year against the Kansas City Chiefs leaving everyone devastated and wondering what course of action to take next.  I easily could have been one those owners because I would have selected Brady myself.  I had the 5th pick in my draft and it was going to be either Brady or Peyton Manning with that pick (see my previous article ”Draft RB’s Early: Buyer Beware to see why I go with QB’s first) and the owner with the 2nd pick selected Brady leaving me with Manning at number 5.  After Brady went down Matt Cassel filled in admirably after not having started a game since high school by leading the Patriots to an 11-5 record despite missing the playoffs. Moreover, Cassel helped countless fantasy owners sustain deep playoff runs on the basis of his back to back 400 yard
