The Workhorse Comes Back to Work

Larry Johnson has finally ended his holdout with the Kansas City Chiefs. The pro bowler concurred to a six year contract extension earlier this week. The Chiefs running back set the all time NFL record for attempts last season with 416; furthermore, he set the all time Chiefs franchise record in rushing with 1749 yards. The details of the contract is a $ 43.2 million and $ 19 million guaranteed. This negotiation would make Larry Johnson in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform until 2012. Due to the long and arduous 25 day holdout, the superstar running back will be fined 7,000. The Kansas City Chiefs went 0 – 2 without Larry Johnson in the lineup, so having number 27 back on the roster is a welcome addition. With the departure of veteran quarterback Trent Green, the Chiefs are looking for anything to enhance the offense. Damon Huard went 5 – 3 as a starter last NFL season, and he did a respectable job as Trent Green’s replacement. The younger and inexperienced Brodie

NFL- Michael Vick is Back and Ready for His First Game

After a very turbulent year, Michael Vick is ready to return to the NFL and demonstrate that, despite his absence, he has maintained his talent as a quarterback. Vick spent 18 months in prison after being found guilty for participating in a dog-fighting ring. He served his sentence and was released from prison only a couple of months ago. After his release, he spent his time knocking on the door of several NFL teams, hoping to get into shape and play football again. The only team that thought him worth the chance was the Philadelphia Eagles. He sat on the bench for the first two games of the regular season because, apart from his legal sentence, the league has penalized him as well. But he will be available to play next weekend during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. His role in the field is still uncertain; the team has a complex of quarterbacks that may leave Vick as a number 3 replacement. Philadelphia’s normal starter, Donovan McNabb, hasn’t been

2010 AFC West: Chargers and Broncos Favored in NFL Odds

The San Diego Chargers -325 are the overwhelming NFL betting favorites at online sportsbooks to win the division title in 2010 AFC West odds. The Chargers were the division winners of the past two seasons but are fortunate in that it is the weakest division by far in pro football. The Denver Broncos were a distant second choice at +600 with the Oakland Raiders at +750 and the Kansas City Chiefs at +700 in NFL betting odds. San Diego was an impressive 13-3 straight up last year which made some handicappers be fooled into thinking that Norv Turner was a good coach.

Turner provided remedial training to everyone why he is considered one of the worst head coaches in the NFL as the Chargers lost their playoff game to the New York Jets 14-17 as 7.5-point home NFL betting favorites and Turner was totally befuddled by his counterpart Rex Ryan. On the positive quarterback Philip Rivers is one of the best and the defense showed improvement. While the

LeBron James will not sign with Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010

LeBron James has stated that he wants to play for a title contender next year, and will sign with the team that he feels gives him the best chance to do that. Consider the Steelers out of the sweepstakes, after they were embarrassed in Cleveland last night by the 1-12 Browns. This win was a huge lift for a Browns franchise who had lost 12 straight games to the Steelers, (7 years of losing) and 10 in a row at home. No one expected the Browns to win this game, and the Steelers needed to win badly to keep their slim playoff chances alive. The defending Super Bowl Champions looked confused by the stifling Browns defense, led by Rob Ryan. The Browns did not even disguise their blitzes in this game, and still managed to sack Ben Worthlessberger 8 times. The Browns rushed for 171 yards and only needed the 13 points they scored in the first half to secure the win.

Not that LeBron would have played for the Steelers anyways, but this will definitely guarantee them

tinyurl.com Try as he might to turn everything upside down at Chiefs headquarters, one thing Todd Haley has been unable to do is eradicate the stench created by two seasons of losing. That much became obvious in the final minutes of Sundays season opener in Baltimore. The score was tied with 5 minutes remaining, but from that point, one team made all the plays and advanced for a 38-24 victory. That team, of course, was the Ravens, who lost in last seasons AFC title game, and not the Chiefs, losers of 24 of their last 26 games. The situation is already threatening to get worse before it gets better, assuming it ever does. Beginning a week from Sunday, the Chiefs open a stretch of four games against opponents from the NFC East. Each looked strong enough in their openers Sunday to exploit the Chiefs considerable weaknesses. That puts a desperate light on this Sundays game against Oakland at Arrowhead Stadium. The game is suddenly about a frantic attempt to save their season from peril two weeks in.It doesnt really matter whos coming in, safety Jarrad Page said. We need a win. Thats the thing I can definitely tell you. We need a win.The Raiders are one team on the early schedule capable of providing the Chiefs some comfort. One of KCs last two wins came against the Raiders last season in Oakland. But the Raiders won their last two games at Arrowhead. In any case, the Chiefs are in no position to take anything for granted. After fighting their way back from an early 10-point deficit

History of the NFL Super Bowl Game

Prior to the merger, NFL and AFL leagues were two bitter rivals. There was a need to unit all fans and club sides from both leagues, hence the landmark agreement that cemented and brought about the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Sunday is that day of the year in which winners from both leagues (NFL and AFL) come together to determine who is the champion of the world. The winning team gets the Vince Lombardi Trophy –posthumously named after the coach of the Green Bay Packers that won the first two Super Bowl games. Vinci Lombardi died in September 1970.

The game, which is usually played once in a year has witnessed many date shifts; from first to mid Sunday in of the month of January, it later settled on the second Sunday and from which point it went off again to the third unto the last and later revised back to the first Sunday in the month of February.  Let us hope there is no further shift in date!!

Kevin Poston, Law’s agent, confirmed the news Friday in an e-mail to The Associated Press

Kevin Poston, Law’s agent, confirmed the news Friday in an e-mail to The Associated Press . The agreement came after Denver’s media availability and a Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Law is expected to sign the deal Saturday, pending the passing of his physical. He may even make it out to practice as the Broncos (6-1) prepare to host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

The 35-year-old Law, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, will fit right in with Denver veteran defensive backs Champ Bailey , Andre’ Goodman , Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill , all in their 30s.Law becomes the latest former New England player to reunite with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, who spent his previous eight seasons as an assistant with the Patriots.

A first-round pick by New England in 1995, Law helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles. He played for the New York Jets last season. The Broncos have been relatively quiet on the free-agent front so far

Predicting the Playoffs for 2006

Now that the draft, free agency and the first set of minicamps have come and gone, teams are close to being set in terms of personnel. The schedule is in place for every team, and this time of year presents the first somewhat realistic opportunity to look ahead. Of course, there could still be player movement, and injuries are always a monkey wrench in terms of gauging which teams are poised for a big year. With all that being said, it’s time for the first set of fearless predictions for the 2006 season, including who will make the playoffs.

AFC East Top Two Finishers: New England and Miami
The Patriots, for the first time in two years, are looking to recapture the title they lost last season. Any team with the combination of Bill Bellichek and Tom Brady has a chance to win it all, and with the Bills and Jets at least a year away, the Pats will win the division. The Dolphins have uncertainty at QB, but also have a “star” coach in Nick Saban and talent

NFL Preseason Week 2: Patriots at Falcons Odds – 8:00pm EST

A pair of teams that are football betting favorites to make the playoffs will be featured on FOX TV for a Thursday night match-up in NFL preseason odds for week 2 as the Atlanta Falcons host the New England Patriots with kick-off set for 8:00pm EST. Online sportsbooks opened with Atlanta as a 2.5-point home favorite in NFL picks vs the New England with an over/under of 37 while 2011 Super Bowl odds have the Falcons 25-1 longshots and Patriots 12-1 NFL betting favorites. Both clubs were successful in their NFL preseason openers as New England beat the defending world champion New Orleans Saints 27-24 at home while Atlanta scored a 20-10 win at home over the Kansas City Chiefs in week 1.

The win in week 1 NFL picks felt good for the Pats, who last played at home in a 33-14 playoff loss to Baltimore. “It’s a new year,” said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. “Whatever happened last year was last year.” New England quarterback Tom Brady was sharp as he
